Ten arrested including a former sarpanch for making country liquor in Excise Raid

Jharsuguda :  Ahead of Panchayat Polls, the Excise officials along with Police Officials have been conducting various raids to curb the use of illegal country-made liquor in the district.

In this context, On Monday morning, a joint raid was conducted by the Excise Officials and Belpahar Police officials, raided various houses in Mohanpur Village area under Belpahar Police station and seized 300 liters of country-made liquor and destroyed 4,000 fermented Mahua flowers, and seized utensils used in the preparation of country liquor.

During this raid, Excise officials had arrested ten people including a wife of a sarpanch candidate of Pipilimal Gram panchayat under Lakhanpur Block in Jharsuguda district for allegedly making illegal Country made liquor.

As reported, Malti Digi, was also a former sarpanch of Pipilimal during 2012 – 2017. As per the report, Malti Digi’s husband Mangal Digi is contesting for the post of Sarpanch of Pipilimal Gram Panchayat in the present Panchayat Election.

Jharsuguda Excise Superintendent Dilip Palai said that “On wee hours of Monday, we got information on the control room, Belpahar Excise Officials and Belpahar Police officials had raided various houses in Mohanpur Village area under Belpahar Police station and seized 300 liters country liquor and destroyed 4,000 fermented Mahua washes and seized utensil used in the preparation of country liquor. Till now ten persons have been arrested and forwarded to court.”
