Jharsuguda municipality restarts plastic ban enforcement
Jharsuguda : Jharsuguda municipality on Tuesday resumed enforcement of the ban on single-use plastic. The teams formed an awareness drive and enforcement activities.
On the first day, the resumption of these enforcement activities was meant for creating awareness among the people. The enforcement squads had visited various shops and roadside stalls and had seized single-use plastics from a few roads side fruit and vegetable sellers.
“In Jharsuguda Municipality, the use of Single-use plastic below 50 microns has been banned since 2018, However, after this ban, local people are still not following this and has been using it. To curb this Jharsuguda municipality had created awareness regarding this through Swachh Saathi and Swachh Supervisor, we visited all the shops and roadside vendors and had asked them to stop using the single-use plastic. On Tuesday, we had consisted a team and visited all the shops from Jhanda Chowk to Bus stand and verified if the shop owners and the roadside vendors were using any single-use plastic. Most of the shop owners have been aware and are not using it however we still found few shops using it, we have seized the single-use plastic. However, we haven’t fined then we just provided a warning to them and ask them not to use the plastic anymore.” said Madanananda Seth, Sanitary inspector, Jharsuguda Municipality
