Four Additional Bay to be constructed at Veer Surendra Sai Airport

Jharsuguda : In a bid to make Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda more convenient for the passengers, four additional bays will be constructed very soon. The tender for the construction of four new bays has been awarded to a Kolkata firm. This information has been shared by the Jharsuguda Airport Director Pawan Kumar Zutshi.

Presently, Veer Surendra Sai Airport has only Two bays, where only two aircraft can be parked at one time but after the construction of additional four bays, the airport can accommodate another six aircraft at one time.

Airport Director Pawan Kumar Zutshi, said, “Presently we have two-bay and at a time two aircraft can be parked. Subsequently, four more bays will be constructed for which the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has awarded the tender to a Kolkata based firm. The total estimated cost for the construction is around Rs.12.5 Cr. These four additional bays are been designed for the landing of A320 type aircraft. By January 2023 this construction will be finished and after January 2023 Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) Airport, Jharsuguda can accommodate 6 aircraft at a time. After which it will be very beneficial for the airport and in future, even the number of flights can be increased. Presently, Veer Surendra Sai airport is witnessing a footfall of around 800 -1000 passengers on weekdays whereas the footfall increases at Weekend to around 1,000 -1200 passengers.”

Presently, Spicejet Airline has been operating flights for Kolkata, Hyderabad, Delhi, Bangalore from Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda

Apart from this Alliance Air has also been operating flights for Bhubaneswar, Raipur, Kolkata
