Jharsuguda police arrested a 33 year old man for committing cyber crime and cheating several victims
Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Police on Tuesday, arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly committing cybercrime and cheating several victims after convincing himself as a known person and asking for money through google pay on the pretext of repaying them.
Police identified the accused as Kartik alias Sunil Routray (33), a resident of Village. Soroda, Nuagaon, Dist. Nayagarh, A/p. Ksalapather PS. Baideswar Dist. Cuttack (Odisha)
As reported, on 29th April 2021, one victim D. Sharma, received a call from a mobile number 8018949122, who identified himself as a friend and had requested Rs. 10,000 to send to another google pay mobile number 8280657622, as he was unable to send the money and agreed to return the money to the complainant’s bank account. He also sent a fake message that he has transferred the amount, believing him, the complainant had transferred the Money and switched off his mobile number. Based on the complaint, a case was lodged at Jharsuguda Police station and an investigation was carried out.
Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Bikash Ch. Das said, “Based on the complaint, we had formed a team including Cyber cell and investigation was carried out, the team had identified the accused as Karthik Sunil Routray. During interrogation, the accused Kartik @ Sunil Routray confessed that he has procured fake SIMS from different mobile retailers from Nayagarh, Khurda and Cuttack area. He had been cheating and asking for money ranging from Rs. 10,000 – Rs. 40,000. After getting the money he uses to spend that money. He has been involved in six cheating cases under Jharsuguda District but he has also been involved in various other police station of Odisha. After we will bring him on remand and would get to know more details. We have seized 28 (Nos.) of Mobile Sims of various mobile service providers, 11 (Nos.) of Mobile phones, 14 (Nos.) of ATM Cards of different banks, 15 (Nos.) Cheque Books of different banks and 03 (Nos.) Bank Passbooks and he has been forwarded to court today.
I would request everyone, to be alert and without verifying anyone kindly don’t provide any account details, please verify it by going into the bank and verify it. This crime has been increasing trend, we have been more vigilant. In this regard, we will also do an awareness camp on all police station level.”
