44 Chhattisgarh bound Migrants Labour detained near Jharsuguda Road Railway Station.

Jharsuguda : Nearly 44 migrants labour of Chhattisgarh were detained by Jharsuguda administration after they were spotted travelling along the Sambalpur – Jharsuguda Railway Track near Jharsuguda Road Railway Station.  

They were detained near Jharsuguda Road Railway Station on Sunday afternoon after their company, where they were working was shut down due to 21-days lockdown.

According to per the eye witness, “I was giving water to plants near my house, when I saw a group of people walking near the railway track coming from Sambalpur side carrying their bags and I thought if there is lockdown then how can a huge group of people are moving, then I went and enquired about it, they told that they were working at Shyam DRI Steel plant, near Rengali under Sambalpur district and after the closure of plant operation, we left nothing to eat so we are going to our home which is around 200 KM along the railway track, then I alerted Jharsuguda Administration.” said Rajesh Padhee, resident of Sarbahal

“We had come from Chhattisgarh to work at Shyam DRI plant after March 17th and after working one week, the plant was closed. so we had a problem in getting foods, then we decided to go home but as there was no mode of transport to go home, we decided to go walking along the railway track thinking that. We had started walking 11 AM from Sambalpur. We request the government to please send us home. ” said Omprakash Ketwat, Migrant Labour, Champa

Jharsuguda Sub Collector Shiba Toppo,” These labour have been detained after they were spotted near the Jharsuguda Road railway station. They told that the plant in which they were working at Shyam DRI got closed so they were going home by walking. As per preliminary relief, we have provided biscuit and water and later we will do a medical check-up for all labourers and would also provide accommodation for them at nearby School. “
