Shortage of Blood at Jharsuguda Blood Bank
Jharsuguda : Due to the COVID -19 Scare and total lockdown in the State, Jharsuguda is witnessing a shortage of blood.
“In the last 15 days, there were supposed to have two blood donation camp i.e. on 19th and 22nd March which was cancelled due to corona fear. Presently asking the attendant of the patient to get a blood donor and in exchange, we are giving the blood to them,” said Dr S. Jojo, Blood Bank Officer, Jharsuguda
Jharsuguda District requires around 8000 Units of Blood yearly, among which around 2000 units of blood comes from the various Blood Donation Camps held in the District. In the year 2019, a total 6,576 units of blood were collected among which around 2,292 units along had come from various Blood Donation Camp held during the year 2019.
“During this pandemic crisis, the administration should allow to hold indoor Blood camps under the strict protocol to ensure donors safe blood donation which is a necessity for maintaining sufficient blood in our Blood bank to meet any emergency situation,” said Sanjay Panigrahi, a resident of Jharsuguda
“I will surely look into this matter and take appropriates steps. However, we have already a list of donors, we can directly contact them for any emergency need. said Jagdish Kumar Barik, Chief District Medical Officer, Jharsuguda
Another problem for the patients is the Blood Bank is situated at Mangal Bazaar and District headquarter Hospital is located at Malimunda which is around 7 Kilometre far on top of that they have to cross the police check during the lockdown due to this patients are getting harassed facing problems in getting the blood at ease.
