While addressing to the media on Friday, Raigarh S.P. Santosh Singh said, “On 7th May 2016, the mutilated dead bodies of a woman and a young girl were found in the forest of Raigarh, bordering Jharsuguda district. Their faces were crushed beyond recognition. Initially, it looked that they had died due to an accident but after post mortem, it was revealed that some hard blunt object was used to murder them and later vehicle was run over them to give a look of an accident.”
It was a challenge for the police to identify the dead bodies. We had sent photos to six states i.e. Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Jharkhand. In the year 2017, the identification of the dead woman was done by one of the relatives who was a police constable in Brajrajnagar by seeing the photos in Police station.
During the investigation, police found some clues and that indicated that Sai was the close acquaintance of Kalpana. Chhattisgarh Police repeatedly summoned Sai on the basis of the evidence but he did not appear. For the last six months, our police team had been tracking and following Anup Sai and after that, we finally picked him and interrogated him. Initially, he dined any link with the woman but later he confessed to the crime.,” S.P. added
The main motive behind the murder was, Kalpana Das had come in contact with Anup Sai after being divorced by her first husband in the year 2005. Since then she and her daughter use to live with Anup Sai in a three-storied flat in Sundarpada area in Bhubaneswar. In his confession, he said that the woman was blackmailing him and was insisting him for marriage and share in his property. Though her daughter was from the previous husband, both mother and daughter were killed with a sharp-edged weapon.” the S.P. Said
One Burman Toppo the driver of the Sai was also involved in this case. He is still at large. We have launched a manhunt to nab Burman.
“We are suspecting the involvement of some more people in this case. Additionally, We will take court permission for conducting a NARCO test on Anup Sai and after which we believe that more information will be revealed. “Said Santosh Singh, Raigarh S.P.
