Students Lock School On Teacher’s Day, demanding a math’s teacher
Jharsuguda :�While the students across the country were busy in celebrating Teacher’s Day today, students of Talpatia Nodal High School in Jharsuguda district locked the school and refrained themselves from celebrating teachers day on Wednesday, demanding a mathematics teacher for their school.
Sources in the school said, there are 293 students from Class I to Class X at the school. However, there is a maths teacher for the student of class I to Class VII, the sole mathematics teacher, Sumita Patel, teaching mathematics to the student from Class VIII to Class X, was transferred in the month February 2018. And since then, the post has been lying vacant.
The students on Wednesday, boycotted the Teachers Day celebration and locked down the entrance gate of the school and demanded to bring back Sumita Patel as they are facing difficulty due to the absence of mathematics teacher.
The Education Department officials rushed to the spot and had assured to bring back the same mathematics teacher after which the students opened the gate.
“Since five months, there is no math’s teacher in our school, �and we have our class X pre-test �in this month, as without any learning’s how can we appear for the examinations, ” said �Chetana,� a Class X Student
“We had earlier written to District Collector and Dist. Education Officer to fill the vacancy of math’s teacher but till date, no teacher has joined due to which our children are suffering,” said Rita Urma, a guardian of a student.
Talpatia�High School Head Mistress Jayanti Das said “On Wednesday morning I and school teacher’s had entered the school through the main gate but after a while, we saw that none of the students had come to school when I sent a peon of our school to look what is the matter?. Then, I learnt that the school gate has been locked by the students of the school. When enquired, the children’s demanded to bring back the math’s teacher. Since February, there is no math’s teacher in our school. I had already intimated District Education officer but till now no one has joined.”
Jharsuguda District Education Officer� Mitrabhanu Kachhap said,” We had given issued an order to a math’s teacher to join but he didn’t join till now, but on the demand of the students of the Talpatia Nodal High School, we have issued a fresh order to bring back the old math’s teacher to the school.”
