Jharsuguda : A joint raid was carried out by the Jharsuguda district weights and measurement department along with Jharsuguda Town Police on Friday over anomalies in various weight instruments used by the shop keepers in the town.
Led by district Senior legal metrology officer Anand Chandra Biswal, the operation was carried out in the presence of Jharsuguda SDPO Purushottam Sethi and IIC Khirasagar Naik of Jharsuguda Town Police Station.
We carried out our raid at various units present at Friday Market and nearby area, we had found that the various Chicken & Mutton and fertilizer shops present were selling their products through unverified measurement scales having anomalies in their instrument. During our raids around ten cases has been registers with a fine of Rs. 10,500 was collected from them. Biswal said.
As per the norms, people selling the products with their scales have to get it verified once in two years, while for electronic scales it has to be verified every year at the weight and measurement office.
Usually, shop owners are getting these scales from outside town like Raipur, Sambalpur and those scales don’t have any stamps of the dealers or date of purchase due to which is difficult to trace the dealers operating without any verification. he added
Biswal said such drives would be carried out regularly.
