Jharsuguda : A cricket betting racket accepting bets on the Mumbai Indians versus Kolkata Knight Riders match held on 13th May, was busted in Jharsuguda town on Monday. Police have also arrested five bookies in this connection seized Rs 7,85,600 besides nine cell phones, Calculator, Notebooks, Paper sheet containing IPL matches with customers name from their possession.
Police identified the accused as Prateek Yadav (28), Raja Thakkar (28), Sunil Sarada (39), Rajkumar Hora alias Bunty (52) Sudip Modak (24) all residents of Jharsuguda.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Puroshottam Sethy said, acting on tip-off, we raided the house of one Prateek Yadav at Chowkipara. Police launched a search operation and verified his mobile phone. During mobile verification, we found Whatsapp chat with the customers and agents. We also found recorded voice in connection with betting on the mobile phone. During interrogation, he revealed that he was accepting bets from his friends and persons, known to him. He also revealed involvement four other accused persons in the racket. Subsequently, police raided the house of Raja Thakkar and arrested Raja and other accused persons from there. “The five accused persons were forwarded to court on Monday,” said police.
