OPGC Celebrates World Environment Day


IB Thermal, 06-06-2017; OPGC Celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June 2017 at Ib Thermal Power Station colony with the theme CONNECTING PEOPLE TO NATURE. A week long programme culminated on this day with mass plantation drive carried out at IB Thermal Power Station plant premises. Employees took part in all the events with great enthusiasm to mark the occasion.

Plantation activity commenced at 9:00 AM on the designated area behind ladies rest shed inside plant premises. General Manager (O & M) Mr Sukanta Mohapatra led the plantation drive by planting a sapling followed by Plant Manager Mr Sanjay Garhwal and other senior officials. More than 100 saplings were planted by employees at the site. In the afternoon a format meeting was organised at the Service Building conference hall by the EHS Dept. G.M. (O & M) Mr Sukanta Mohapatra presided over the meeting which was attended by a number of senior officials and employees. Dy. Manager (Environment) Mr Partha Sarathi Panda conducted the meeting in the guidance of Head(EHS) Mr Sitaram Sahu. To aware, the employees of OPGC about the importance of environment protection a presentation and video show was organised by Environment, Health & Safety(EHS) Dept. Building up to the Environment day, a series of events were organized by EHS Dept. to create awareness among the Contractor worker, community population, employees and their family members which include drawing competition among township and community children, Environment quiz competition among ITPS ladies club members, OPGC and contractor employees, slogan competition and Inter-departmental green team competition for best environment performances.

This apart, a cycle rally was organised at Jharsuguda in partnership with NGO Development Initiative to sensitize the inhabitants of Jharsuguda town on the impending dangers of global warming and negligence towards protection of environment. District collector Mr. Bibhuti Bhusan Pattanaik, IAS flagged of the cycle rally in which more than hundred cyclists rallied in and around Jharsuguda town with placards and chanting slogans, thus urging the citizens to protect our ecology from decaying. The rally started from the industrial area and culminated at Utkal Jyoti Bhawan at Cux colony where a consultation meeting was organised. The programme was coordinated by promoter of NGO Development Initiative Mr Rakhyakar Anupam. From OPGC, Head (HR & Admin) Mr. Pradeep Kumar Patra attended the meeting among other dignitaries and spoke to the gathering on the theme of environment day.
