OPGC distributes life jacket for travellers crossing Hirakud reservoir on boat
Jharsuguda�: OPGC (Orissa Power Generation Corporation) today distributed fifty life jackets �at the Tilia Ghat for the safety of travellers who commute daily to and from Sambalpur crossing Hirakud reservoir on boats.
Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) team of OPGC lead by Umakant Pahi, Head (EHS) reached at the ghat early in the morning and briefed the passengers and boat operators on the usefulness of life jacket in saving lives.
Safety of each and every individual working in OPGC is the primary goal and it is the first and foremost of a set of values we follow at OPGC, Mr. Pahi said. �With this small step of providing life jackets, we want to expand and propagate our values by setting an example so that more agencies come forward to help saving lives of people who do such risky journey�, he said.
Sarat Chandra Nayak, Dy. Manager (EHS) gave a demonstration on the use of life jacket and advised the boat operators to ensure use of these jackets by the passengers. Later each passenger was given a life jackets each to wear before boarding the boat.
The jackets shall be in the custody of the boat operators who shall ensure use of those by passengers every time. Among others, Mr. Rahul Dev, Dy. Manager (Environment), Mr. Nitya Kar, Asst. Manager(EHS), Mr. Sudhir Behera, Asst. Manager(Administration), Mr. Prashant Hota and Mr. Maheswar Prusty joined from OPGC.
