Jharsuguda : A MCL’s vehicle carrying explosive exploded at quarry no. 5 of Belpahar Open Cast Mines of Mahanadi Coalfield Limited under Lakhanpur area on Wednesday evening. However, due to the explosion no one has been reported to be injured.
As per MCL PRO Dikken Mehera said, “Company’s Explosive vehicle was returning carrying 1.7 tonnes of explosive meant for quarry blasting at the Belpahar Open Cast Mines when due to some unknown reason fire broke out due to a spark on the left hand side of the van, and due to alertness of the Driver of the van, which had intimated the incident to the office and had parked the van in an isolated place as per the instruction from higher officers. Water tanks were immediately rushed to the spot but however, the van got exploded before the tank reached the spot. No one has been injured in this explosion.
Due to explosion the Charla Villagers had gathered pelted stones in anger over the Project Officer P.V. Reddy along with three other officials who had rushed the spot for assessment of the explosion. Due to which Project Officer had been injured and rushed to TRL Hospital and later discharge after the medical treatment. Police Said that, We are investigating the matter and trying to ascertain the cause of the explosion. However , the area has been griped under panic due to this explosion.
