Badmal Police Nabs Four for Tyre Theft Worth ₹22 Lakh under ‘Operation Netra’

Jharsuguda : In a major breakthrough, Badmal Police have cracked a high-value burglary case involving the theft of truck tyres and batteries worth over ₹19 lakh from a tyre shop in Jharsuguda and nabbed four miscreants in this connection on Tuesday. The arrests were made under “Operation Netra,” initiated under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police (SP) Gundala Reddy Raghavendra, Jharsuguda.

Police identified the accused as Ganesh alias Ketan Sahoo (37), of Patanashi, Angul, Md. Wasim (29), of Muzaffarpur, Bihar; currently operating a tyre shop in Nuahata, Angul, Chan Ali (42), of Mukundpur, Samastipur, Bihar; residing in Gopalprasad, Angul and Md. Rasid (43), of Pokhra, Bauali, Bihar; residing in Gopalprasad, Angul.
According to police official, complainant Nilesh Mundra (40), proprietor of M/s Mundra Tyres located near Biju Patnaik Chowk, Badmal, reported the theft on October 8. The incident occurred during the night of October 6–7, when unknown culprits allegedly broke open the backside window of the shop and decamped with 65 new tyres and two batteries worth 19 Lakhs.

Acting swiftly, police formed multiple investigation teams to examine CCTV footage from various points across Jharsuguda town, toll gates, and mobile tower data to trace the culprits. Their efforts revealed that the accused had conducted a prior survey of the shop before executing the theft.

Police investigations found that the accused arrived at Jharsuguda in a Mahindra Bolero Pick-Up and an Ashok Leyland truck. After breaking into the shop, they loaded the stolen goods into the vehicles and fled via State Highway 10. Following sustained technical surveillance and intelligence inputs, police arrested four accused persons involved in the crime and recovered Stolen goods worth 16 Lakhs.
