Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda MLA Tankadhar Tripathy requested Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan and also Odisha Minister Higher Studies Suryabansi Suraj for allocation of funds for development of infrastructure of women’s college, Jharsuguda.
The Women’s College in Jharsuguda, the only institution for women in the district, has been serving the educational needs of around 1650 female students. However, the college has long faced challenges due to inadequate resources that hinder its ability to meet the growing needs of its students. Currently, the college stands on 1.5 acres of land, but only 1.16 acres of it is legally registered under the institution’s name. This land is utilized for managing three streams and two hostels. To secure affiliation for +2 and +3 courses, the college requires 5 acres of land.
Many of the students enrolled at the college come from marginalized communities, and the lack of essential infrastructure, including adequate classrooms, a well-equipped library, an auditorium, and a playground, has impeded the overall development of the students. Without these facilities, it has been difficult to create a conducive environment for learning and empowering girls. Moreover, the college plans to introduce post-graduate courses in subjects like English, Hindi, Political Science, and Economics in the near future.
In light of these facts, the request has been made to allocate the necessary funds for the development of infrastructure at the Women’s College in Jharsuguda, which will not only benefit the young women of the region but also contribute to the community’s overall growth and development.
