Farmers’ Protest Rally in Jharsuguda Demanded Immediate Action from Government
Jharsuguda: The Jharsuguda District Zilla Krushak Sangathan held a massive protest rally on December 11 at 11 AM, starting from the local Beheramal Kishan Chowk and marching towards the District Collector’s office. The rally was organized to demand immediate attention to various issues faced by the farming community. It culminated in a public meeting at the Collector’s office, where farmers voiced their grievances and presented their demands to the government.
During the meeting, farmers highlighted several urgent issues, including the nationalization of crop insurance schemes, conducting crop cutting for all types of crops (including wheat, millet, pulses, and paddy) from the current Kharif season, and providing compensation based on weather-dependent assessments. They also condemned the crop cutting process, which had been limited only to fallow land, demanding it be extended to all types of land.
The Jharsuguda District Farmers’ Association submitted an 18-point memorandum to the Chief Minister through the District Collector. The protest rally was led by prominent farmer leaders, including Dilip Badhei, Hemant Kumharya, Hemant Sahu, Saroj Patel, Jagannath Jena, Birenchi Sahu, and Surendra Sahu. Hundreds of farmers from all five blocks of Jharsuguda district participated in the rally and the subsequent meeting, showing their united stance on these pressing issues.
