Jharsuguda Police Launch District-Wide Drive Against Gutkha and Tobacco Violations

Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Police recently conducted a district-wide enforcement drive under the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) to curb the illegal sale and storage of gutkha and other tobacco products. During the special drive, police teams carried out intensive inspections at over 100 locations across the district. A significant quantity of prohibited tobacco products was seized, and legal action has been initiated against the violators as per the law.
Alongside the enforcement activities, awareness programmes were organized across police stations to educate the public, especially students, about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption.
A total of 110 Prosecution Reports (PRs) were submitted under Section 24 of the COTPA Act across various police stations in the district, with Jharsuguda PS submitting 15 PRs, Sadar PS 8, Badmal PS 13, Airport PS 11, Laikera PS 9, Kolabira PS 7, Brajarajnagar PS 13, Belpahar PS 4, Orient PS 4, Lakhanpur PS 8, Rengali PS 7, and Banharpali PS 11.
