Rampela villagers submit memorandum seeking action on illegal parking and road repairs

Jharsuguda: Villagers of Rampela under Lakhanpur Block of Jharsuguda District on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Jharsuguda district administration, demanding immediate steps to curb illegal parking of heavy vehicles and undertake urgent repairs of the badly damaged road stretch from Rampela Bridge to Bisibhakta Bus Stand.

It was led by former Brajrajnagar MLA Alaka Mohanty along with Bimala Kisan, sarpanch of Rampela Gram Panchayat, and hundreds of villagers. They submitted the memorandum to the district collector through ADM (General) Brajabandhu Bhoi.

The villagers said the road has deteriorated sharply due to the continuous movement of hundreds of heavy vehicles belonging to nearby industries, causing severe inconvenience to villagers. They alleged that rampant illegal parking of trucks has further worsened traffic conditions and posed safety risks.

They also highlighted that deep potholes along the stretch have led to several accidents. The situation, they said, has been aggravated by the heavy movement of coal and ash-laden trucks, while regular sprinkling of water to suppress dust has made the road muddy and slippery, particularly endangering two-wheeler riders.

In the memorandum, it is warned that if the issues are not resolved within seven days, they would be compelled to resort to a road blockade as a mark of protest.

Former Brajrajnagar MLA Alaka Mohanty said, “The road is in a very bad condition, and several accidents have already occurred. We have been raising this issue repeatedly, but our requests have not been addressed. This time, we have given the administration seven days to resolve the problem, failing which we will be forced to stage a road blockade.”
