Jharsuguda: In a bid to strengthen public awareness and combat the growing menace of cybercrimes, the Jharsuguda Police on Thursday launched a Cyber Safety Campaign at the MCL Auditorium, Jharsuguda, under Odisha Cyber Security Awareness Campaign-2025. The initiative was inaugurated in the presence of Superintendent of Police G. R. Raghavendra, District Collector Kunal M. Chavan, and Additional District Magistrate Kishore Chandra Swain, along with several senior police officials.
The campaign witnessed active participation from school and college students, members of social organizations, and senior citizens, marking a collective step toward promoting digital safety.
Speaking on the occasion, SP G. R. Raghavendra said, “We are launching a basic cyber safety campaign in Odisha with the mantra ‘Stop, Verify, and Be Secure.’ In the next one month, we will conduct multiple awareness activities, including walkathons and debates. Cyber fraud cases are on the rise, and our goal is to reach every block and educational institution to spread awareness.”
Highlighting the emerging trends in cybercrimes, the SP noted that investment scams and financial frauds were the most reported in the district over the last three years. “Being a cosmopolitan city, Jharsuguda has witnessed cases involving OTP sharing, APK file downloads, and phishing links. Awareness remains our strongest tool to fight cybercrime,” he added.
He further urged citizens to report any cyber fraud immediately by dialing 1930 or visiting the National Cybercrime Reporting (NCR) portal – https://cybercrime.gov.in/
Heena, a student of Jharsuguda Engineering School, shared her experience, saying, “I’m glad to be part of this campaign. We learned about the risks of downloading unknown APK files, securing our social media profiles, and the importance of strong passwords and two-factor authentication.”
