Jharsuguda Main Post Office Heritage Building’s Independent Postage stamp Unveiled

Jharsuguda: An independent postage Stamp was unveiled at the Heritage Building of Jharsuguda Main Post Office . The building, established in 1892 during British rule, was originally built when the Bengal-Nagpur Railway line made the Jharsuguda railway station operational. From 1895 until 02.10.1979, this building served as a sub-post office and was the main communication hub for all local communities, maintaining a strong emotional and historical connection with the local populace.

On 03.10.1979, the sub-post office was upgraded to a main post office. During the Quit India Movement in 1942, the tricolor flag was hoisted at this very post office as a symbol of resistance. In 2021, the building was officially declared a heritage site by the Department of Posts.

The heritage building was formally inaugurated for national purposes by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 03 February 2024. The event today saw the participation of several dignitaries, including Shri Riju Ganguly, the Chief Postmaster General of Sambalpur Division, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Among the distinguished guests were Sitaram Pratap, Additional Secretary, Establishment and Integration, Sambalpur, and Shree Prashant Kumar Panda, Headmaster of DAV Public School, Jharsuguda.

The ceremony was attended by key officials, including Shyam Sundar Maharana, Postmaster of Raigada, and Nishchit Ranjan Ray, Head of the Postal Ticket Collection Unit. Senior postal officers such as Jayant Kumar Das from Sundergarh also participated in the event.
