Ward Councillors Seeks Fixed Remuneration and other benefits

Jharsuguda : Ward Councillors of Jharsuguda Municipality on Saturday submitted a memorandumSeeking Fixed Remuneration and other benefits for Ward Councillors. The memorandum was given to Chief Minister of Odisha through Jharsuguda District Collector.
As per the Memorandum,Ward councillors responsibilities and dedication of time and resources have multiplied over the last few years making it almost a full time engagement, whereas Ward councillors lack the benefit of a fixed pay/salaries and other remuneration benefits like Term life insurance, health insurance etc.
Whilst Ward councillors do appreciate the recent increase in sitting allowance of Councillors to Rs 500/-vide your letter No 6114 dated 13/03/2024, Ward councillors are in dire need of a fixed remuneration and insurance benefits to ensure that we are being reasonably compensated for their time and efforts to ensure the financial security and safety of the Ward councillors and their families.
It is also ironic that whilst there is a fixed remuneration for Zilla Parishad, Sarpanch and Samiti Members whereas for Ward Councillors, whose responsibilities and time dedication has multiplied several folds over the last few years, do not have such benefit which is causing apprehension and dissent amongst all of us.
Apart from the this, Ward Councillorsrequested to kindly take immediate steps to fix a monthly salary of Min 15,000/- and insurance benefits (Term life cover of upto Rs 10lacs in case of unfortunate demise of any ward councillor and Health insurance of upto Rs 10 lacs).
