World Mental Health Day observed

Jharsuguda : On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, has been observed in Jharsuguda district at Nava Das Auditorium with the cooperation of the District Administration, District Judicial Authority (DLSA), District Mental Health Department, and voluntary organization People’s Forum. On the occasion of the event, a mental health public awareness walk was organized from the old bus stand to Naba Das Auditorium Hall.

Students of PKSS Degree College, Jharsuguda District, PKSS Junior College, Lakshmi Narayan College, Women’s College, Jharsuguda and Jharsuguda Nursing College, Youth Society of Jharsuguda and others and social workers participated in the program.

In addition, both staff and inmates from all the rehabilitation centers of the People’s Forum participated in the program.

A meeting was held at Nabadas Auditorium Hall in Behramal, in Which Lankeshwar Amat, Additional District Magistrate of Jharsuguda District attended the meeting as the chief guest. Other guests were District Judicial Magistrate Neha Das, A. D.M.O Ms. Suprabha Barik, Educationist and Social Activist Kavita Panda, District Social Security Officer Gopalakshmi Hota, District Sub-Divisional Social Security Officer Pratibha Behera, District Social Welfare Officer Punyabati Helen Xess, DPM Bulunath Sahu attended the programme along with this, Prof. Maheshwar Shetpathi, former professor of Department of Psychology, Utkal University VaniVihar joined the program as an honorary speaker.

The approach of World Mental Health Day was highlighted as well as ways to keep the youth mentally healthy. Prof. Maheshwar Shetpathi explained in detail the purpose of celebrating this day and answered many questions that arise in the minds of the youth regarding mental health.

The direct involvement of the youth in the meeting and the discussions were very instructive and useful. Even after speaking for a long time, the listeners were mesmerized by the mantra. In the end, Sanjay Kumar, Vice President of People’s Forum proposed the vote of thanks and Bibekananda Mishra, President of Jharsuguda Drama School conducted the event.

Along with this, an inmate from Jharkhand who was staying at Mission Ashra-II, a rehabilitation center run by People’s Forum at Katpali village in Jharsuguda district, was handed over to her family in the presence of district officials.

Various colleges of Jharsuguda district organized a drawing and Essay competition on the theme of mental health and all the winners were felicitated by the guests. This was followed by a play prepared by the staff and inmates of the People’s Forum which enthralled the audience and created an emotional atmosphere. The play was directed by Ganesh Chandra Dholarasingh and the audience was sure to enjoy the other dances.
