Millet Nutrition Awareness Rath Launched in Jharsuguda
Jharsuguda: On the occasion of International Millet Year 2023, a Nutrition Awareness Ratha was launched in Jharsuguda on October 3. The Ratha will visit all rural areas of the five blocks of the district for four days to create awareness about millet cultivation, the benefits of millet, and the International Millet Year 2023.
Millets are small grains with many beneficial properties, but their demand in society is declining. The Odisha Millet Mission is working to bring millet back to the food plate.
District Chief Agriculture Officer Baladeba Mohapatra, Odisha Millet Mission District Project Coordinator Tikeshwar Behera, Sandeep Mandal, and Swarnalata Biswal were present at the launch event.
The program was also attended by Seva, Sevak, and Ajka organization workers and other agricultural officials, along with Mandia Ratha from Laikera, Kolabira, Jharsuguda, Kirmira, and Lakhanpur blocks.
The launch of the Nutrition Awareness Ratha is a significant step towards promoting millet cultivation and consumption in Jharsuguda district. Millets are a healthy and nutritious food source, and their cultivation can help farmers improve their incomes.
The Ratha will be visiting schools, Anganwadis, and other public places to create awareness about millets. It will also be distributing millet seeds and other promotional materials.
The Odisha Millet Mission is urging farmers to give importance to millet cultivation. If millets are cultivated on a large scale, farmers can be financially empowered.
