Jharsuguda District Union of Journalists Holds Dist. Executive Meeting and General Meeting

Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda District Union of Journalists, affiliated with OUJ, held its district executive meeting and general meeting in a grand ceremony at the Municipal Council Kalyan Mandap in Brajrajnagar on Friday.

The meeting was attended by Labour Employment Minister of the state government Sarada Prasad Naik as the chief guest, Brajrajnagar MLA Alka Mohanty, Brajrajnagar municipality chairman Jajinseni Oram, and General Secretary of the State Press Union Ashok Nand as the guest of honor.

In the first phase of the meeting, all the members expressed their opinions about the various problems of the district press union. Four new members were also welcomed to the meeting. The second phase of the meeting was held under the chairmanship of district president Ritesh Sharma.

In his speech, the chief guest, Minister Sarada Prasad Naik, said that the state government is aware of the problems faced by journalists. He assured the journalists that he would discuss the matter with the Chief Minister and take the necessary steps to resolve the issues.

The other speakers at the meeting also highlighted the problems faced by journalists and urged the government to take steps to address them.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Trilochan Das, former president of the Jharsuguda District Journalist Union and national working member.

Key Demands of the Jharsuguda District Journalist Union

Jharsuguda District Journalist Union has raised the following demands to the government:

• Inclusion of parents of journalists in the Gopbandhu Health Insurance Scheme
• Immediate implementation of the Journalist Protection Act in the state
• Immediate implementation of the car and home loan concessions announced by the state government in 2019

The union has also requested that the government set up a Bhawan for Journalists in Jharsuguda. The union has said that it will continue to raise its voice for the rights of journalists until their demands are met.
