Jharsuguda: Early marriage is a serious problem in India, and it can have a number of negative consequences for both the bride and groom. In an effort to address this problem, the Jharsuguda district administration has launched an awareness camp called “Sanjivani”.

On July 23, the awareness camp was inaugurated at the Kirmira Block Office and provided counselling to 18 couples on health check-ups, safe motherhood, antenatal care, newborn care, vaccinations, and pregnancy intervals. Couples were also counselled on how to improve their living standards and received psychosocial counselling to help them achieve marital stability.

District Chief Medical Officer and Public Health Officer Dr Dolamani Patel, District Social Welfare Officer Punyabati Helen Khes, District Child Protection Officer Sunanada Maharana, CWC Chairperson Ashish Kumar Panda, District Labour Officer Sunita Kisan, Dr Suprabha Barik, CDPO Sandhyarani Sahu, and District Coordinator (Child Marriage) Pitabasa Behera were all present at the camp.

The awareness camp will be organised in Laikira (July 30), Brajrajnagar (Municipality) on August 6, Jharsuguda (Municipality) on August 13, Jharsuguda block on August 20, Kolabira block on August 27, and Lakhanpur block on September 3.

The awareness camp is a valuable initiative that could help reduce the number of early marriages in Jharsuguda district. It is important to educate young people about the risks of early marriage and to provide them with support if they are considering marrying before the legal age.
