Locals to Protest for a Second Bridge Over the Ib River
Brajrajnagar: A local organisation in Brijrajnagar has decided to hold a protest tomorrow, June 1, demanding the construction of a second bridge over the IbRiver on National Highway No. 49.
The bridge near Ib Barghat is 65 years old and has started to deteriorate. It connects the Jharsuguda district headquarters with other parts of the district and Chhattisgarh. An average of 10,000 heavy vehicles pass through this bridge every day. There have been calls for the construction of a second bridge in various forums, but it has not been implemented.
The demand letter submitted to the district administration has the signatures of Loknath Sahu, Vijay Mani, Ranjan Sahu, Rakbala Pradhan, and others.
The two-hour protest is being held to raise awareness about the need for a second bridge. The organisers hope that the government will take action and approve the construction of the bridge.
In a statement, the organisers said, “The bridge is in a dilapidated condition and is a major risk to the safety of commuters. It is also a major bottleneck for the movement of goods and services. The construction of a second bridge is the need of the hour.”
They urged the administration to take immediate action and approve the construction of the bridge.
The protest will be held from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. near Barghat. The organisers have appealed to the public to participate in the protest in large numbers.
