Jharsuguda Sizzles as Mercury Soars to 43°C, Hottest Town in Odisha Amid Sweltering Heatwave

Jharsuguda: As the scorching heatwave continues to grip Odisha for the third consecutive day, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in many places, Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest town on Wednesday, recording a blistering 43 degrees Celsius. According to the evening bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state capital Bhubaneswar and the bustling city of Cuttack also witnessed sweltering temperatures, reaching 39.8 degrees Celsius.

Following Jharsuguda, the northern Odisha town of Baripada registered a scorching 42.5 degrees Celsius, while Sambalpur boiled at 42 degrees Celsius. Boudh and Talcher recorded 41.6 degrees Celsius, Balangir and Titlagarh at 41.1 degrees Celsius, and Bhadrak, Sundargarh, and Sonepur at 41 degrees Celsius. Hirakud stood at 40.7 degrees Celsius, Rourkela at 40.6 degrees Celsius, and Chandbali at 40.3 degrees Celsius.

At 2:30 PM, Jharsuguda reached the highest day temperature of 42.4 degrees Celsius, with Bhubaneswar following closely at 39.4 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of further rise in temperature by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next 2 days, with the day temperature expected to remain above 40 degrees Celsius and 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal in some places in Odisha for the next 4 days. Heatwave warnings have been issued for several districts in the state until 8:30 AM on April 16th.

On Tuesday, nine places in Odisha recorded temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius and above, with Baripada being the hottest at 41.6 degrees Celsius, adding to the ongoing heatwave conditions in the region.
