Jharsuguda : More than 40 agitators were arrested by the Brajrajnagar Railway Protection Force under various sections (147,145,146,174(a) railway act) for staging a Rail Roko and disrupting Howarh – Mumbai Railway line for over four hours. The agitators were demanding the stoppage of Special Train, Train No. 08477 Puri – Yog Nagari Rishikesh Utkal Express at Brajrajnagar Railway Station.
“Since the commencement of Puri – Haridwar Utkal Express. It used to have Brajrajnagar Railway Station as a stoppage but when this train re started again after COVID-19 Pandemic, we found that, stoppage at Brajrajnagar was missing, instead almost all stoppage in Chhattisgarh has been given, but stoppages at Brajrajnagar, Belpahar and Bamara has been removed, after earning so much of revenue from this region railway authority have not included Brajrajnagar station as stoppage. We are not demanding a new demand, rather, asking to have the stoppages as earlier.” Said Pramod Panda, president Brajrajnagar Citizen Committee
Bilaspur division (South Eastern Central Railways) ARM Piyush Kumar Lahre said that, “I want to thank Jharsuguda District administration for ending this Rail Roko. As per the instruction from headquarter, this trains which was running are COVID Special Trains so this train doesn’t have stoppage at Brajrajnagar we have also told the same to the members of Brajrajnagar Citizen Committee and informed that whenever the trains will resume its full operation in its normal timing then it will have all stoppage as earlier. The stoppage decision has been taken by the railway board. Subsequently, we have already intimated the demands to our higher authority and request them to look into the demands of local residents.”
Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari, “ Regular Trains are not running, all Trains have been cancelled. Only a few trains which are running are COVID Special Trains with a minimum stoppage. So, as per the people’s demand who are demanding the stoppage at Brajrajnagar and Belpahar, I have sent the demand to the Railway Minister and will also speak to him directly as I am going to Delhi for attending the Parliament Session.”
