Awareness Rally to Save Migratory Birds

Jharsuguda: In a bid to create awareness among the local villagers for not killing any migratory birds, an awareness rally was conducted by Brajrajnagar forest range officials at Tilia Gram Panchayat under Lakhanpur Block and its neighbouring villages on Thursday.

The rally was started from Tilia Gram Panchayat Office and was attended by several local villagers along with the Tilia Sarpanch Thaneswar Sahoo and MP Representative Raghunandan Panda, Sandeep Chaudhary, (Forester Bandhbahal), Gaurango Sahu (Forester, Brajrajnagar), Santanu Pradhan (Forest Guard, Bandhabhal Sector), Tehsil Kumar Behera (Bandhbahal), Members of anti-bird Poaching Squad were present in this awareness rally.

This rally had covered around 20 kilometres and covered around nine villages including Phatapali, Sianpali , Koltikra, Charmal, Barsaruah, Singhaipali, Barangamal, Budhipali, Tilia.

As reported, in the recent Bird Census which was held on 7th January, around 22 Species like tufted duck, Common Pochard Duck, Lesser Whistling duck, Little egret, Little Cormorant, Red Crested Pochard Duck etc. were identified and approximately 7,000 migratory birds were identified in two, Sector 11 and 12 of Hirakud Reservoir out of six sectors which are near Lakhanpur Block.

Jharsuguda Divisional Forest Officer, Lalit Kumar Patra, said “We are regularly conducting various anti-poaching camps to create awareness among the local villagers and even boat patrolling is done regularly to keep a check on the poachers.”
