  1. 1. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995)

This one was obvious. Some movie theatres in India are still running the movie. This movie can be considered to be SRK’s magnum opus. It was a game-changer for him. One-liners like ‘palat’ and ‘bade bade deshon mein choti choti baatein hoti rehti hai ‘has been immortalised through him.

2. Baazigar (1993)

The twist in this movie was just brilliant. No spoilers for those who haven’t watched it yet. But if Darr was the straight-out villain role, in this one, SRK did something completely different. Khan took us a surprise in this one. Bollywood’s king of romance transformed into an intense redemption-seeking hockey coach. He brought such depth and soul into his character that it would be difficult to place him in any other type of role.

In simple terms, a film with a message. In a broader perspective, a film tackling the issues of terrorism, racism, Islamophobia and diseases like Asperger’s syndrome. This film is emotionally intense and heart-wrenching. It is unlike any other SRK film.

5. Dil To Pagal Hai

Directed by Yash Chopra, Dil To Pagal Hai starring Shah Rukh, Madhuri Dixit, Karisma Kapoor and Akshay Kumar was released in 1997. The film shows romance blossoming between Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri while working on a dance production. On the other hand, the film shows Karisma developing a feeling for her best friend Shah Rukh as well. One of the many love triangles SRK has starred in, the film is also famous for its dance sequences as well as its romantic tracks.

6. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Rani Mukerji, Salman Khan as part of an ensemble cast, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (KKHH) was directed and written by Karan Johar and was released in 1998. The film is about the two love triangles set years apart. The first half of the film shows SRK, Kajol and Rani Mukerji and their budding romance during their college days. The second half, on the other hand, is about Shah Rukh’s daughter trying to unite her father with his old friend Kajol.
