Raat Akeli Hai Movie Review: A Gripping Story with an Unexpected Twist
Raat Akeli Hai is a classic crime thriller film. The plot revolves around Thakur Raghubeer Singh, a powerful and politically connected businessman in Kanpur, has been murdered on the night of his wedding to Radha (Radhika Apte), his young wife, who he was marrying after the death of his first wife. Wedding remains always loud in Uttar Pradesh town that its hard to differentiate between the sound of gunshots fired by an exciting procession or a murderer.
Jatil Yadav(Nawazuddin Siddiqui ) arrives on the scene in typical police avatar, pushing down doors of the family haveli. He seems like the standard cop who loves his leather jackets and aviators and is always up for a new challenge. But he soon realises that this case will not be so easy to crack. Everyone is a suspect, including his young wife Radha.
The first half of the film is engaging but then somewhere in the middle loses its hold. The second half of movie pics up and gripping. The unexpected twist in the plot and the climax scene is surprising, which is an additional plus point to this film. Dialogue is written keeping the local and rural language touch into it.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a well talented and there is no doubt about it. The moment he enters into the screen it is almost impossible to judge his reel and real character. Nawaz who plays the role of a middle-aged policeman, who applies fairness cream to lighten his skin and wants a homely girl to marry, slips into the character so easily that it gives a new life to it.
Radhika Apte is the Indian queen of Netflix. Her performances with every series and movie are phenomenal. She leaves an incredible mark with her performances. She is a trafficking victim, a mistress, a lover, and a fighter. Yet, these elements of her character often dont appear overwhelming.
The other star cast includes Shweta Tripathi, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Nishant Dahiya, Gyanendra Tripathi, Ila Arun, Swanand Kirkire, Nitesh Kumar Tiwari and Aditya Srivastava, Which justify their role perfectly. The film is directed by Honey Trehan, produced by Abhishek Chaubey and Ronnie Screwvala. Raat Akeli Hai was released on Netflix on 31 July 2020.
