OPGC Observed Van Mahostav-2020
Jharsuguda : Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) observed Van-Mahotsav-2020 in the colony premises of IB Thermal township with plantation of 250 Indian Medlar (Bakul) saplings and 32 Bottle Palms in order to increase green coverage of the premises. Director of Operations Alok Mukherjee inaugurated the event by planting the first sapling followed by mass plantation by personnel of Environment, Health & Safety and Facility Management Department. Chief Medical Officer Dr Bijaylal Biswal, Senior G.M. (Civil) Bijoy Mishra, Dy. G.M (Facility Management) Pabitra Mohan Prusty, Head (EHS) Sitaram Sahu were present along with officers and personnel of Facility Management and EHS Department.
Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change encourages all individuals, corporates and institutions to observe Van Mahotsav annually in the first week of July with an aim to create more forest coverage in the country and to provide�alternative fuels, increasing production of food resources, creating shelter-belts around fields to increase productivity, providing food and shade for cattle, offering shade and decorative landscapes, reducing drought and helping to prevent�soil erosion.
Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) has been doing its part to maintain and increase green coverage at the IB Thermal Power Station site through various such programs each year. The irrigation of the planted saplings post-monsoon shall be done completely by recycled water from the Sewage Treatment Plant.
