Jharsuguda : Nearly 75 Persons were detained by Brajrajnagar police, in Odisha who were travelling from Belpahar under Jharsuguda district to Bihar in a truck on Friday evening during the 21-days lockdown.
According to sources, police intercepted the vehicle near Gandhi Chowk under Brajarajnagar police limits on Friday evening and detained persons travelling in it.
One of the truck driver travelling on it says, ” we are mostly drivers and helpers working in various private companies here, for last few days we had a problem for food as no eatery was opened, as this truck belonged from Bihar, so we requested the truck driver to takes us to home as there was no other mode of going home back so we all drivers had boarded the truck.” said Ajay Yadav, truck driver
Jharsuguda Sub Collector Shiba Toppo,” We got input in Friday evening that in some people of Bihar are been transported to Bihar in a truck. They have been working under various private companies as drivers and helpers. A truck bearing no.� BR 24 GA 9449, have been detained and according to them as there is no mode of transport to reach their home during this lockdown. So they had asked the truck driver to take them. We have detained everyone and had accommodated them in a school. Simultaneously, we are initiating a case against the truck driver as per law.
“These drivers have been working under various private companies and they had been living in the various camps and after the lockdown, they wanted to leave for their home. firstly we have Kept them and after the lockdown phase, Jharsuguda Administration will arrangement facilities to send them back to their home. “
Additionally “We have called all the employers of the drivers and handed them to their custody after taking an undertaking from them to provide the minimum requirement for their livings. We are also collating data’s of such types of labourers stranded in our districts and will take action as per instruction given by the government.” �he added
