Jharsuguda : Badmal Police on Wednesday arrested a 23-year-old youth for allegedly blackmailing a 28-year-old married woman after befriending her in a social media platform, by creating a fake id.
The youth started blackmailing her and allegedly shared the morphed photos in social media which went viral.
Police identified the accused as Dipu alias Soumya Ranjan Sethy (28), a resident of Patla Village under Dhenkanal
As reported, the 28-year-old married woman, a resident of Jharsuguda had come in contact with the accused through a social media platform. The accused had made a fake id profile in the name of a girl Puspanjali Padhi.
The victim was in contact with the accused of past eight to nine months, who was pretending to be a girl and use to chat with her. In the meantime, the accused had induced the victim so much that she had shared all the information about her, her friends and even some intimate photos to him.
The accused Dipu had also created many other fake ids in the name of Lipika Sahu, Debasmita Bastia, Sasmita Sahoo and Swapanarani Patra and use to chat with Victim and also with the relatives and friends of the victim too.
Later, the accused created another fake id in the name of Amit Padhi and started chatting with her by saying that he was a relative of Puspanjali Padhi and had exchanged mobile numbers. He also forced her to meet him at Angul on 28th October and wanted her to meet when she realised that the accused had created fake id and was actually Dipu Sethy alias Soumya Ranjan Sethy and wanted to forcibly marry her. She somehow reached Angul Bus stand and was rescued by his husband who brought her to home on 29th October. The victim narrated the entire incident to her husband.
After the victim returned to her home, the accused Soumya Ranjan Sethy had allegedly shared the morphed photos to her husband and in social media platforms.
Based on the complaint filed by her husband on 3rd November, a case was registered at Badmal Police station and the accused was nabbed from Bangalore on Wednesday.
Jharsuguda S.P. Aswini Kumar Mohanty said, “We have arrested the accused from Bangalore. He is a resident of Dhenkanal. He has been held for blackmailing a married woman. We have also seized three mobiles including the victims used in the crime.”
