VSS Airport gets four airlines under UDAN III Scheme
Jharsuguda : Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) Airport, Jharsuguda gets four airlines under UDAN III Scheme to operate from Jharsuguda to six major cities as announced by Ministry of Civil Aviation on Friday.
The four Airlines are Alliance Air, Spice jet, Turbo Aviation and Jet Airways which will operate from Jharsuguda to six cities Jharsuguda are Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi and Raipur which got connected under the UDAN III Scheme.
Apart from Jharsuguda, even Rourkela get connected with two cities i.e. Raipur and Bhubaneswar with two service providers Turbo Aviation and Alliance Air respectively
VSS Airport was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22nd September 2018 and had also flagged off the first flight of Air Odisha from Jharsuguda to Raipur under UDAN (Ude Desh Ke Aam Nagarik ) Scheme.
But the Service provider Air Odisha had suspended its flight operation and stopped its operation unexpectedly and Later Airport Authority of India (AAI) has cancelled the license of Air Odisha for failing to operate minimum scheduled flights in the month of November.
Since then, the VSS Airport was lying idle without any scheduled airlines. VSS Airport has been built at 10275.5 acres of land with an estimated cost of 210 Crores with a contribution of Rs. 75 Crores from the State Government and with a handling capacity of 300 Passengers per day.
“All four successful airline has been given an award letter by the Minister of Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu and they have been asked to commence the operation at the earliest.” said, Sudesh Chauhan, Jharsuguda Airport Director
