Median opening sought on Sarbahal Road to ease traffic congestion specially during Durga Puja

Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda Municipality vice-chairman Benugopal Panigrahi has urged the Public Works Department (PWD) to create a properly planned opening in the road median near Vishal Mega Mart on Sarbahal Road, citing persistent traffic congestion and safety concerns.

In a written representation to the PWD superintending engineer, Panigrahi said the existing median arrangement was causing bottlenecks, particularly during peak hours, and making vehicle movement difficult in the busy stretch.

He said motorists are often forced to take unsafe turns, while pedestrians also face difficulties while crossing the road, increasing the risk of accidents.

With traffic expected to rise further during the festive season, Panigrahi sought an immediate inspection of the site and requested the department to examine the feasibility of removing around 15 feet of the median to create a safe U-turn opening.

He said any modification should be carried out in accordance with engineering norms, traffic management requirements and road safety standards.

Panigrahi said a scientifically designed median opening would help improve traffic flow and provide safer access to nearby commercial establishments. It would also facilitate the movement of emergency vehicles, public transport and pedestrians.

He urged the PWD authorities to take prompt action before the festive rush intensifies to ensure smoother traffic management and public safety on the stretch.
