Jharsuguda cyber police recover Rs.7.02 lakh lost in online urea supply fraud

Jharsuguda: In a major success against cyber fraud, the Jharsuguda Cyber Crime & Economic Offences Police Station ensured the recovery and refund of the entire Rs.7.02 lakh lost by a Belpahar-based company in an online cheating case involving the purported supply of Technical Grade Urea.

According to police, the complainant had contacted a supplier through an advertisement on the portal and transferred Rs.7,02,000 to the proprietor of Shree Radhe Chemicals as advance payment for the supply of Technical Grade Urea. The accused allegedly gained the company’s confidence by sharing a GSTIN and a fake e-Way Bill. However, after receiving the payment, neither was the material supplied nor was the amount refunded.
Following the complaint lodged on June 28, 2026, Jharsuguda Cyber Police immediately initiated action through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). Prompt coordination with the concerned banks enabled police to put the entire fraudulent amount on hold, resulting in a 100% recovery and refund to the complainant.

The complaints were registered under NCRP Acknowledgement Nos. 32406260020633 and 32406260020635. Police said efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the accused persons involved in the fraud.
Jharsuguda SP G.R. Raghavendra said, “A Belpahar-based company was cheated of ₹7.02 lakh by fraudsters posing as suppliers of Technical Grade Urea through an online platform. On receiving the complaint, Jharsuguda Cyber Police immediately initiated action through the NCRP and coordinated with the banks. As a result, 100% of the cheated amount was successfully frozen and refunded to the complainant.”

He urged businesses and citizens to verify the credentials of online suppliers before making advance payments. “In case of any cyber fraud, immediately report it by calling the national cyber helpline 1930. Early reporting is the key to successful recovery,” the SP added.
