Jharsuguda Police Return 102 Recovered Mobile Phones to Owners

Jharsuguda: In a citizen-friendly initiative, Jharsuguda Police on Tuesday organised a Mobile Handover Mela, during which 102 lost and stolen mobile phones were returned to their rightful owners.

The mobiles were traced and recovered through sustained technical surveillance and close coordination between the Jharsuguda Cyber Cell and various police stations across the district. Police officials said that most of the devices were tracked using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) by following the prescribed procedure of blocking and unblocking phones based on their IMEI numbers.

According to police data, the highest number of recoveries was made by Jharsuguda Town Police Station (19), followed by Brajrajnagar (14) and Sadar (14). Other recoveries included Badmal (12), Banharpali (9), Laikera (8), Lakhanpur (6), Airport (5), Belpahar (4), Kolabira (4), Orient (4) and Rengali (3), taking the total count to 102.

Senior police officials said the mela was aimed at strengthening public trust and highlighting the effective use of technology in crime detection and recovery. Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the effort, calling it a morale booster for citizens who often lose hope after losing their devices.

Jharsuguda Police have urged citizens to promptly report mobile phone theft or loss at the nearest police station and immediately block the handset through the CEIR portal (https://ceir.gov.in
) using the IMEI number. Timely reporting and blocking, officials said, significantly improve the chances of quick tracking and recovery.

The police further reiterated their commitment to leveraging technology for efficient service delivery and public welfare.
