Legal Awareness Program on Domestic Violence and Women’s Rights Held.

Jharsuguda: A block-level legal awareness program on women’s rights, domestic violence, and legal provisions for the protection of women was organized at the local MCL Welfare Hall under the aegis of the State Women’s Commission and the District Social Welfare Department. The event aimed to educate participants about the legal safeguards available for women against abuse and domestic violence.
The program was inaugurated by lighting the ceremonial lamp, attended by distinguished guests including Jharsuguda Additional District Magistrate Brajabandhu Bhoi, Additional Superintendent of Police Madhusikta Mishra, Representative of the Honorable Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management Raghunandan Panda, and Jayaprakash Pradhan from Khaliakani PHC.
The guests emphasized that women’s empowerment, education, and safety are vital for the nation’s progress. They also expressed concern about the impact of child marriage on both boys and girls. The Additional Superintendent of Police highlighted the police’s commitment to working diligently for women’s safety and providing necessary assistance when required. Raghunandan Panda stressed that women are not inferior to men in any aspect and urged the audience to abandon societal stereotypes that hinder women’s growth.
The discussions underscored the need for women to be aware of their legal rights and to spread awareness among others. The session featured insights from Somadatta Purohit, Assistant Law Officer of the District Health Department, advocate B. Nageshwari, and Anandi Paadhi, Director of the NGO SEHEDA. They elaborated on gender discrimination, gender-based violence, legal rights for women, and government schemes available for their welfare.
The trainers emphasized the importance of legal awareness programs in empowering women. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session. District Social Welfare Officer Punnyabati Helen Khes coordinated the event, delivering the welcome address. ActionAid’s District Coordinator Vidyasagar Mishra managed the stage, while Program Officer Meenakshi Raj extended the vote of thanks.
