OPGC Celebrates 52nd National Safety Week

Bandhbahal: OPGC organised a plethora of awareness events to celebrate the 52nd National Safety Week which started on 4th March and culminated on 10th March in the premises of IB Thermal Power Station. The theme for this year’s National Safety Week was “Our Aim-Zero Harm”. The Closing ceremony was held this afternoon in premises of IB Thermal Power Station in the chairmanship of Director (Operation)  Manas Ranjan Rout.

The events at the closing function started with an exhibition set up by different departments showcasing innovative safety tools & PPE’s. Head-EHS  A.S.Rao gave the welcome address followed by deliberations by distinguished speakers- Plant Manager of OPGC-II  Sudhakar Swain and Plant Manager of OPGC-I  Satyapriya Behera who spoke on the importance of following safe practices in workplace as well as at home. In his address, the Director (Operations) Rout emphasized on linking the practice of safety behaviour to the performance evaluation of employees which can take OPGC’s already excellent safety culture to a whole new level. A skit was presented by contractor workers on importance of following good practices on road safety which was appreciated by the Chief Guest.

The week long events started on 4th March morning with pinning of safety badge on the uniform for all employees of OPGC including contractor employees and workers. Director (Operations) Sri Manas Ranjan Rout unfurled the National Safety Day flag inside the plant premises in the presence of employees and contractor workers. This was followed by inauguration of signature campaign and an innovative safety awareness exercise with the use of mirror.

Several activities were done in this week long campaign of National Safety Week which include Safety slogan and Quiz for Employees and contractor partners, departmental safety initiative, Community safety awareness at peripheral village, Safety poster competition for school children, Safety Training programme on first-aid for Contractor people, Building fire Evacuation drill, safety exhibition, and an array of competitions related to safety awareness among OPGC & contractor employees. Winners of all competitions were rewarded by the dignitaries present in the closing ceremony. Sarat Chandra Nayak(Sr. Manager-Safety) & Jatindra Kumar Sahu (Sr. Manager-Safety ) conducted the event. Sri Sambit Kumar Nanda, Dy. Manager (Safety) gave the customary vote of thanks.
