First Phase of Panchayat Poll Ends, overall 82.10 percent Turnout
Jharsuguda: The first phase of voting for the three-tier Panchayat elections concluded on Wednesday with a voter turnout of over 82.10 per cent in Jharsuguda District which passed off peacefully with no untoward incident reported.
During the first phase, Jharsuguda District’s Kirmira, Laikera and Jharsuguda Block went for the polls. In which Kirmira block recorded 80.50 per cent whereas Laikera Block recorded 84.59 per cent and Jharsuguda Block recorded 81.20 per cent of votes.
The casting of votes started at 7 am as per schedule completed at 1 pm. Several Voters were seen lined up in long queues in front of the polling booths to exercise their votes since morning.
In this first phase, voting was held for 36 Sarpanch and 36 Samiti Member 432 Ward Members and 5 Zilla Parishad in 432 booths including 68 Sensitive Booths.
