Jharsuguda Administration conducts raids on shops selling polythene
Jharsuguda : Jharsuguda District Administration and Jharsuguda Municipality jointly raided various shops and seized around one quintal of polythene on Wednesday.
Jharsuguda Municipality Executive Officer Ram Chandra Pradhan said,” Even though we seized huge quantity of Polythene bags from three shops, we didn’t slap any fine on them. However, we will continue to conduct this raids on a regular interval of times and slapped fine ranging from Rs.500 – Rs. 5000 on the people, who will be found to be using the pollutant, in the days to come.”
As per reports, Jharsuguda district administration had imposed a �ban on the use of polythene carry bags below 50 microns from 1st January.� Subsequently, many awareness programmes were also organised by the various social organisation and Educational institutions regarding the ban on the use of polythene and the fines for violating this ban i.e. between Rs 500 to Rs 5,000.
Despite the ban on the use of polythene by the Jharsuguda district administration, polythene bags in the town was rampantly sold by the shopkeepers. Even the elite citizen had expressed concern over the situation. However, the raid has been welcomed by the citizens.
“Though District administration imposed the ban, the use of polythene is going on secretly. Due to this pollutant, drains are choked and by eating it even animals suffer. Regular raids could curb the use of pollutants in the town.” said Baristha Nagarik Sangh Co-ordinator Arun lal Mor
