Jharsuguda �bandh� on December 14th (Monday)
Jharsuguda: Making the agitation stronger, the students of Laxmi Narayan College of Jharsuguda who have been on an indefinite strike since Wednesday has called for Jharsuguda Bandh on Monday.�The agitated students who are on Hunger strike (Fast unto death) since Saturday till the demands are fulfilled.
They have been demanding transfer of Land and building in the name of the College. Originally,the College �which was established in the year 1969, inaugurated by then Governor Late A.N. Khosla for providing better education in this area. The College started functioning in the third hostel of Jharsuguda Engineering College, which come under the Department of Industries on agreement of rental of Rs. 4530. But due to paucity of funds the college had not paid the due rent.
Meanwhile several meetings took place with since then for transferring of this land from Dept. of Industries to Department of Education, but still then nothing happened.
Recently, a letter from the joint Secretary of Government of Higher Education had stated to pay the arrears rents Approx Rs. 82, 22,190 and vacate the land building for the use of Jharsuguda Engineering School.
�We had given a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Education Minister and Collector to do the needful and transfer of the land and Building in the name of L.N. College but still nothing happen, we have called for Jharsuguda Bandh on Monday 14th Dec. Various social organization as well as other associations like Merchant Association, Barista Nagarik Sangh, Biju Chatra Sangh, Jharsuguda Dist. Student Forum,Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha etc are also supporting us for our genuine demand.� Said Lalmohan Ramdas, President Students Union, L.N. College.
