2 held, 20 chain snatching cases solved
JHARSUGUDA:�With the arrest of two chain snatchers, Jharsuguda Town Police have solved 20 cases of chain snatching incidents and recovered stolen gold ornaments and the bike used in the crime on Friday.
The accused were identified as Avinash Sharma (21), Javed Ali (21) both resident of Purnabasti of Jharsuguda.
Jharsuguda Police said that the arrested accused were involved in over 20 chain snatching cases registered at various police stations of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Sundergarh District. The Modus of operandi of this gang was to first identify the victim with the gold ornaments and then use to divert the attention of the victim by asking questions while, the other partner sitting on the bike would snatch the gold ornaments and fled away on their bike speedily.
During the police interrogation, the duo confessed to have committed the crime and based on the information provided by them, the police arrested Jeweller Ramesh Soni, who bought gold from them.�Police have seized stolen gold ornaments and their Yamaha R-15 (OR � 02 � BF � 2727) bike worth Rs.1.5 Lakhs
Jharsuguda S.P. S. Shyni, in a press conference said that, �The accused were active on the three districts, till now they have confessed of 20 chain snatching cases and rest cases are still under verification. However, the accused has been booked and forwarded under section 392, 34, 394 IPC�
