Jharsuguda: In a bid to go green and inculcate Environment consciousness among the Community, Plant Personnel and workers, a weeklong Environment awareness programme from 30 th May to 5h of June was organized by Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL) here at Jharsuguda to commemorate the World Environment Day being observed every year on 5thof June. In this line several Programmes were organized to mark this year’s theme “THINK.EAT.SAVE Reduce your footprint”.
On the final day, the culmination began with a plantation drive kicked off by Prof. (Dr) B K Nanda, VC, VSSUT, Burla, Mr. Aswini Kumar Kar, Divisional Forest Officer, Jharsuguda, Mr. Abhijit Pati VAL COO, Mr. D K Singh Head HSE VAL Jharsuguda. Following this a Safety pledge was administered in the convene and Mr. D K Singh gave the Welcome Speech reiterating VAL’s Commitment towards improving quality of life with a greener and cleaner environment. He also stressed on conservation of food for world’s needy.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Abhijit Pati highlighted on the various environmental practices in the Plant premises. He quoted that Environment Day celebration is not just a phenomenon, rather it is an attitude. This day reminds us the responsibility towards mother earth. To protect and conserve the environment for our children and future generations is the responsibility of each and every individual on this planet.
Dr. Nanda as Chief Guest made an intellectual deliberation on the issue of protection and conservation of environment. He congratulated Vedanta for its effort in this regard..
Mr. Kar suggested various ways to improve the Green canopy on VAL premises and take it forward to the Community and periphery at large. He also shared valuable ideas for plantation and environment management practices in day to day lives.
The celebration also marked distribution of prizes to the children, family members and VAL employees who had won in various competitions like Environment Quiz, Slogan, Painting etc held earlier in the week. Mr. ASP Mishra gave the vote of thanks of the closing ceremony. Among others, present during the occasion were Senior Officials from VAL, Officials from partner companies and volunteers.
