Renowned Industrialist, Social Worker and Sports Patron Durga Prasad Ji Singhania Passes Away at 81

Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda mourns the loss of one of its most respected and distinguished personalities, Durga Prasad Ji Singhania, who passed away at the age of 81. A well-known industrialist, noted social worker, and passionate sports lover, Shri Singhania was widely admired for his generosity, humble nature, and lifelong contribution towards the development of society and youth in the district.
Over the decades, Durga Prasad Ji Singhania established himself as a prominent figure in Jharsuguda’s social and industrial landscape. He and his family remained actively associated with numerous charitable, social, and community welfare initiatives. Known for his compassionate approach and commitment to public service, he earned immense respect across all sections of society.
Singhania was also deeply connected with the sporting community of Jharsuguda. He played a significant role in the promotion and development of badminton and other indoor sports in the district. As a key figure of the Jharsuguda District Badminton Association (JDBA), he contributed immensely towards organizing several prestigious tournaments and encouraging young sporting talent.
One of the notable milestones under his guidance was the successful organization of the All Odisha Senior State Ranking Badminton Tournament in 2021 at the Mangal Bazaar Indoor Stadium, where he worked closely with fellow organizers and sports enthusiasts for the smooth conduct of the state-level event. He was also regularly seen motivating players and attending local cricket tournaments and sports meets as a chief guest and prize distributor.
Apart from sports, Shri Singhania was actively involved in the development and improvement of sports infrastructure, including advisory support for facilities at the Mangal Bazaar Sports Complex. Regional Odia newspapers such as The Samaja, Sambad, and Dharitri frequently recognized him as a respected “Samajsebi” for his role in charity drives, youth development activities, and public welfare initiatives.
As a representative of the industrial community, he also participated in various delegations and discussions concerning the development and progress of Jharsuguda district. His vision, dedication, and positive influence touched countless lives.
