Members of Jharsuguda NSUI burns an effigy of Health Minister demanding setting-up of a 100-bedded City Hospital at Mangal Bazar

Jharsuguda : The members and activist of Jharsuguda National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday burnt an effigy of Odisha State Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das, demanding, a full-fledged 100 bedded City hospital at Old District Headquarter Hospital, Mangal Bazaar.

As reported, After the shifting of the District Headquarter Hospital from Mangal Bazaar into the newly built District Headquarter Hospital at Malimunda in the April 2019. The local residents of Mangal Bazaar and NSUI activists have been demanding a full-fledged 100 bedded City Hospital at Mangal Bazaar.

“There is a conspiracy to close old District Hospital, but we demand a full fledge city hospital for the benefit of people of Jharsuguda Town and if our demands are not met then we will intensify our agitation,” said Navpreet Kaur, President NSUI, Jharsuguda.

Jharsuguda Collector Jyoti Ranjan Pradhan said,” We have made necessary arrangements for functioning of Old District Head Quarter Hospital like it was run earlier. We have presently provided three doctors at that hospital and on the government level, the process is on for declaring it a city hospital.”    

Jharsuguda Chief District Medical Officer Dr Kausalya Pradhan said ” Presently the government has taken steps to built a 100 bedded hospital at the Old District Head Quarter Hospital at Mangal Bazaar under PPP mode and already the official procedure is on the process. Apart from this, as per our Health Minister, the Old District Hospital which has been declared as Urban Public Health Center (UPHC) in which 20 bedded hospital will function based on this we have already written to NRHM Director, once we get approval it will start function.”
