Jharsuguda : Jharsuguda Town Police on Friday has arrested a couple for allegedly cheating owner of Jewellery Shop M/s Naresh Chand Jewellers of Jharsuguda by giving a forged cheque for the payment of the valuables bought by her.
The couple were identified as Pankaj alias Sagar Singh (30) a resident of Khursipar Bhilai (Chhattisgarh) and Sukhmani Turi alias Pooja Singh (32), a resident of Rapatjore, Kinjirekela Dist. Sundergarh.
As per the police reports, On 17th March the accused Sukhmani Turi had visited a City based Naresh Chand Jewellery Shop and had bought various gold ornaments worth Rs. 1,38,860/-. Sukhmani had paid around Rs. 50,000 in Cash and handed over a cheque of Rs. 88,860 of Axis Bank, Rourkela Branch to the owner of the Jewellery shop. Even the accused Sukhmani had asked the owner to get her bank account verified whether it has the money or not. After confirming, the owner of the Jewellery shop had accepted the cheque and had given the valuables to her and had deposited the cheque to his account but later the cheque was dishonoured. Later the shop owner got to know that the account given by the accused Sukhmani Turi has been frozen by the bank long ago. After learning this he tried to contact the accused Sukhmani but failed to contact her and had lodged a complaint at Jharsuguda Police station.
Jharsuguda SDPO Purushottam Sethi said that”After receiving a tip-off from the valuable sources we arrested the duo. The modus of operandi of this couple was to pose as high net worth individual and dupe shopkeepers by paying them a cheque of a frozen account. We have seized a Maruti Swift desire (CG 08D 7500), Cash Rs. 1,27,000, Sony Laptop, Two Mobile Phones, Forged Cheque Books, Forged documents and pan cards, Several Mobile SIM Cards, Six ATM Cards of different names of Various Banks and bunch of cash memos of several purchased Jewellery from shops of several cities.”
