17 years Girl Killed due to witchcraft rituals

Jharsuguda: A 17-year-old ailing girl died on Thursday night after her superstitious family subjected her to physical torture as part of a treatment process using purported supernatural power.

The deceased was identified as Sanjukta Jaipuria, a resident of Bijapali Village under Lakhanpur Block.

As per the police sources, Sanjukta was suffering from bad health for few days. She was a student of +2 first year of Arts Stream of Mahima College, Bijapali, Panchgaon.  Seeing the health problem of Sanjukta, her father Gopal Jaipuria working as a labour had discussed it with her neighbour friend of the same village to Dolamani Jaipuria. After believing that she would get better after holding some Puja rituals. Both the family members had agreed to hold this Puja ritual in the house of Dolamani Jaipuria.

Though there was a primary healthcare centre at Palsada Village which is located around 3 K.m. from the Bijapali Village her family member opted witchcraft for her treatment.

In this Puja ritual the daughters of Dolamani named Saudamini Jaipuria (22), +3 2nd year Education (Hons) at Belpahar College and Santosini Jaipuria (23), (studying in +2 first year Mahima College, Bijapali ) had participated and aiming to heal Sanjukta they started the puja rituals in the evening. But soon after Saudamini Jaipuria and Santosini Jaipuria started torturing Sanjukta, cutting her hair, tearing of Cloths, banging her to which Sanjukta died of the torture.

“When they started cutting off my daughter’s hair, I objected them but they both assaulted me and family members .” said the deceased father Gopal Jaipuria

Learning this, both family members were afraid to inform anyone on Thursday night.

On Friday morning, Gopal Jaipuria had reported this incident to the Rengali Police Station after which the police had reached the spot and started the investigation.

Rengali Police station IIC Pratap Rana said that “We have registered a case under section 302 /34 IPC. We had sent the body for post-mortem and investigating the matter, However, the both sister who has been involved in this incident have been detained in this case.”

Till the filing of this news, both sisters have been kept detained.
