JHARSUGUDA: Uniform clad auto-rickshaw drivers will now greet the commuters of Jharsuguda. On the lines of metro cities, the dress code of auto-drivers came in to force from Sunday. A number of drivers were found in Khaki uniform on the first day.
According to regional transport officer (RTO) Diwakar Singh, there are more than 800 auto rickshaws in the town. The dress code is applicable for all of them. They will also have to keep identity cards, which will carry their personal information along with their mobile number and driving license number mentioned in it.
Jharsuguda S.P. Mrs. S. Shyni today flagged off a rally by these auto-rickshaw drivers from Jharsuguda Town Police Station Chowk to Utkal Jyoti Centre, Cox Colony where a two days First Aid Training Programme has being organized specially for the auto drivers by St. John Ambulance Association, Bhubaneswar.
“First Aid Training Programme is to attempt immediate emergency in case of any accident, which would be beneficial for them as well as for the passenger, this initiative is being conducted by Jharsuguda RTO and we are extending our support to it” said Jharsuguda S.P. Mrs. S. Shyni
This will help in identification of auto drivers in case of traffic rule violation and any misconduct with the passengers, she added.
“The main purpose of implementing dress code is to create a unique identity. Commuters will also feel safe and secure while riding in autos. Even the auto drivers have welcomed this initiative and are happy to wear this dress.” said President of the Jai Jhadeswar Auto Association, Tapas Ray Choudhary
“Around 300 autos have registered and have got their Uniform and Identity Cards.” he added.
